😀 Updates since last month
Updated: April 1, 2022
- Went and watched John Moreland at The Waiting Room here in Omaha – nothing unexpected, but his music has been one of the regular soundtracks while I work. It was nice to hear it live.
- Drove up to Des Moines to watch a Jordan Peterson lecture – learned that I’m able to get more out of these lectures by listening to them on headphones, rather than in person.
- Trying to get a little more physically active as a family – been doing some family runs and longer family walks
- Published the 2nd video in my 12 part series on using TickTick, the productivity app.
- My wife sent me this short story, The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas and she was right – it takes 20 minutes to read and you’ll think about it for a long time.
📗 Books I’m currently reading
- Killer Angels by Michael Shaara
- This is about the Revolutionary War, which I’ve ready almost nothing about before. It has been a very good intro. I almost completed it in March, but not quite – few more pages.
📕 Book I finished reading last month
- Getting Naked by Patrick Lencioni
- This was a quick business fable related to the consulting industry and being a consultant. It was nice and easy to read and I learned some things from it!
- Start with Why by Simon Sinek
- I was hoping for a little more from this book. It was basically a business book that made Apple seem like the best company — maybe they are? Or maybe Steve Jobs was a great innovator… but it got me thinking, with all we know about Steve Jobs’ personality, why do we like Steve Jobs?
🎸 Music I’ve been listening to
- Get Hurt by The Gaslight Anthem
- Actually, I’ve been listening to a lot of The Gaslight Anthem – especially since they announced they are ending the hiatus. This was the last album they put out before the hiatus.
- Live 1976 – 1998: Tonight’s the Night by Rod Stewart
- This album has been interesting to me – I like the covers that Rod Stewart put on here – Get Back (The Beatles) and Hungry Heart (Bruce Springsteen).
✍ Quote I’ve been thinking about
“The line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either — but right through every human heart — and through all human hearts.”
– Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago
🎧 Podcast episodes I thought were interesting
- Chris DeMakes A Podcast – #91: Brian Fallon discusses The Gaslight Anthem’s “45”
- Some more Gaslight Anthem, this was interesting to hear how they thought about making this particular song. And it’s a good song.
🎥 Videos I thought were worth watching
- Michael Jackson 1994 Court Trial
- There was a lady saying Michael Jackson stole the song Danger from her, and this was the trial – the most interesting part was hearing how Michael Jackson writes songs – being that he does not read or write music nor play any instruments (well).
- Ernie Chambers – Through the Years
- I’ve always been a fan of Ernie Chambers. Not because I agree with everything he says, but because he has a different perspective usually than I do and can articulate it well. This was a good interview.
